It was an over-100-year super mission to seek certain persons. In early November 2019 National Chung Hsing University celebrated 100 years. Descendants of President Fumio Abe who founded NCHU in 1919 were invited to the celebrations after the searching plan was carried out by NCHU for one year. They were President Abe’s grandson, great-grandson and great-great-grandson. Abe family members were very surprised and moved when they received the invitation from NCHU 100 years after their grandfather established the school.

Takaaki Abe, a male descendant of Fumio Abe’s eldest son and the representative of Abe family gave a congratulatory speech at the celebration assembly. At the same time he gave NCHU presents comprising ten more precious 100-year old photos and two out-of-print books published by President Fumio Abe. One book is President Abe’s autobiography, and the other one about his travel around the world. Takaaki Abe said, “My grandfather came to Taiwan at the age of 40 to found Advanced Academy of Agronomy and Forestry that is the forerunner of National Chung Hsing University, and he had devoted himself to agricultural education in Taiwan for 15 years since then. It made Abe family members feel happy and proud that he had dedicated his golden years of life from age 40 to 55 to NCHU. Taiwan is the Abe’s second hometown.”

A total of 6 Abe family members visited Taiwan for the celebrations. They were Fumio Abe’s descendants of generations 3, 4 and 5, comprising his grandson, granddaughter, great-grandson and one 7-year-old great-great-grandson. NCHU spokesman said, “This time Abe family members bring us historical documents which help us piece up the early history of NCHU when the school was just founded. Fumio Abe acted as the President of NCHU from 1919 through 1920. The University’s historical record of the initial period was incomplete, and even President Abe’s birth year and death year were not found. Because of the war and the school location being moved from Taipei to Taichung, the early historical materials were almost missing totally. This time Abe family members bring us Mr. Fumio Abe’s biographic sketch, personal autobiography and precious photos so that NCHU people have the chance to understand more about this school pioneer.”
