【人社中心國際學者系列講座】Prof. Roger Bristow 演講

Roger Bristow has been teaching spatial planning at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom for the past 40 years, but he is best known in Asia for his books on land-use planning in Hong Kong, and his teaching, seminars and research writing on East and South East Asian planning systems more generally. As early as 1980 he taught for a year in the Geography Department of the University of Hong Kong, and later in that decade worked in Malaysia for half a year as a World Bank Planning Education consultant. For the past five years he has been dividing his time between Manchester and several Taiwan universities in Taipei and elsewhere in Taiwan teaching on postgraduate university planning courses, and is currently Visiting Professor to the Research Center for the Humanities and Social Sciences in National Chung Hsing University, Taichung.

His specialist interest is in the administration and practice of spatial planning in different countries, both in terms of historical development of planning systems and comparison between practice under different cultural and political conditions. Most recently he has taken an interest in the impact of global warming on planning policies around the world, stemming from the pioneering work now being done in the United Kingdom.
