Dr. Ahmed K. Al-Rawahi, President of the University of Nizwa in Oman, accompanied by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) on April 24, 2025 to engage in academic exchange. Dr. Al-Rawahi, a former Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and a member of Oman's upper parliament. He holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture from prestigious United States with specialized expertise in plant pathology, and has played a pivotal role in formulating key agricultural policies in Oman.
During his visit, President Al-Rawahi was warmly received by NCHU President Fuh-Jyh Jan. They exchanged valuable perspectives on international developments in plant pathology and engaged in in-depth discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. The meeting demonstrated both institutions' strong commitment to deepening their partnership and marked a significant step forward in NCHU’s efforts to expand its collaborations with higher education institutions in the Middle East.
NCHU has been actively forging global connections in recent years and is currently one of only five Taiwanese universities recognized by the Omani government. In October 2024, NCHU was invited to Oman to participate in a smart technology symposium and visited several higher education institutions. In December of the same year, NCHU hosted a two-week semiconductor training workshop aimed at cultivating Oman’s technological talent.
President Al-Rawahi’s visit to NCHU signals a goodwill to extend collaboration on semiconductors and smart agriculture. President Jan noted that, there is strong potential for deeper cooperation in both smart agriculture and semiconductor technology based on the fruitful results of previous exchanges and the semiconductor program between the two universities. Given that both NCHU and the University of Nizwa are leading institutions in agricultural sciences in their respective countries, the similarities between them offer promising opportunities for further academic, research, and industry collaboration, including faculty and student exchanges.
This visit also plays a role in reshaping Taiwan’s perception of the Gulf region, fostering deeper mutual understanding through education and technology cooperation, and building long-term, resilient partnerships.
President Al-Rawahi’s visit not only marks a new milestone in academic exchange between the two universities but also symbolizes a shared vision of Taiwan and Oman connecting agriculture and technology collaboration to initiate and further advance innovative education partnerships. As a key research hub for agriculture in Taiwan, NCHU continues to drive research and application in smart agriculture, sustainability, and precision technology. Looking ahead, both institutions aim to leverage their strengths to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
President Jan concluded by expressing his hope that through deeper ties with Oman’s leading agricultural university, a new era of scientific cooperation between Taiwan and Oman can be forged—ushering in a new chapter of innovative education partnerships.
