To strengthen bilateral relations and promote substantive academic exchange between Taiwan and the Czech Republic, Mr. David Steinke, Representative of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, visited National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) on May 2, 2025. During his visit, he met with NCHU President Fuh-Jyh Jan for a dialogue covering topics such as local culture, education, and humanistic values, expressing hopes that academic cooperation and educational opportunities can further extend into Europe.
In his keynote speech, Mr. Steinke introduced the richness of Czech culture, architecture, and literature, and spotlighted the country’s significant achievements in both fundamental and applied sciences. He also shared insights into potential fields for future Taiwan-Czech collaboration. The talk was organized by the NCHU Biotechnology Center, with the invitation extended by Professor Tzong-Ru Lee of the Department of Marketing, and drew an enthusiastic audience of faculty and students.
Following the lecture, Mr. Steinke toured several key departments and research facilities at NCHU, including the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the College of Life Sciences, and the Department of Bio-Industrial Mechatronics Engineering. He also visited the Smart Manufacturing Talent and Technology Development Base at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, gaining a deeper understanding of NCHU’s strengths in agricultural biotechnology, precision manufacturing, and sustainable development.
The Czech Republic, known for its strong foundation in scientific research and innovation, complements Taiwan’s strengths in technical application and industrial integration. Together, the two nations have the potential to develop forward-looking models of scientific collaboration and open new pathways for academic and industrial cooperation on the global stage.
