To promote public awareness of health care, the College of Medicine at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) held its first large-scale community free clinic and health education fair on the morning of August 9 in Chung Hsing New Village. The event was co-organized by Changhua Christian Hospital (CCH) and the Nantou County Public Health Bureau, bringing together over 100 medical professionals and staff. Attendees received free consultations in nine specialties, complimentary health screenings, and access to a variety of interactive health education activities—drawing enthusiastic participation from residents of all ages.

The event showcased a broad range of medical expertise. The CCH medical team offered consultations in family medicine, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otorhinolaryngology and head & neck surgery, neonatology, family dentistry, and dermatology. Additional services included pharmaceutical counseling, nutrition advice, disease prevention guidance, and smoking cessation education. The Nantou County Public Health Bureau also provided a mobile health service vehicle offering mammography, chest X-ray screening, and public health education on topics such as mental health and long-term care—ensuring comprehensive and accessible care for the community.

To make health learning engaging, the College of Medicine incorporated elements from its distinctive medical training into hands-on activities. Visitors could try a fluorescent handwashing demonstration, explore anatomical organ models, observe insect ecology, craft DIY mosquito-repellent pouches, and learn CPR/AED techniques. Participants who joined multiple activities received small gifts and were entered into a raffle, adding a fun incentive to the educational experience.

NCHU Vice President Chang Chao-Chin reaffirmed the university’s commitment to social responsibility, noting that the College of Medicine strives to extend the warmth of medical care to the Nantou community. He expressed heartfelt thanks to the CCH team and the Nantou County Public Health Bureau for their strong support. “In addition to free medical services, we designed interactive activities so residents could gain inspiration from health education and acquire practical health knowledge,” he said.

By combining the resources of local government and leading medical institutions, NCHU is turning expertise into action—strengthening community health literacy, fostering a safer and more supportive living environment, and fulfilling its vision of ‘Medicine in the Community, Health Every Day.’
