A three-member delegation from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), led by Professor Arie Hans Verkuil, Director of the Institute for Management, along with Professor Andreas Hinz and Assistant Daniela Rothe, visited Taiwan in late August. Introduced by Professor Lee, Tzong-Ru from the Department of Marketing at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), the delegation embarked on a series of academic and industry exchanges in central Taiwan. During their visit to NCHU’s Industry-Academia Collaboration Center, the two institutions held in-depth discussions on AI, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and smart cities, laying a solid foundation for future medium- to long-term partnerships.
Upon arrival at NCHU, the FHNW representatives were warmly welcomed by Professor Chien-Chung Chang, Director of the Industry-Academia Collaboration Center, along with faculty members. In the meeting, both sides shared their development strategies and research directions, discovering a strong alignment in their visions for AI applications, smart city development, sustainable innovation, and entrepreneurship. The FHNW delegation expressed hopes to further promote international industry-academia cooperation through faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and collaborative corporate projects.
Looking ahead, FHNW also plans to lead a delegation of approximately 35 EMBA students to Taiwan in October 2026, providing students with deeper insights into Taiwan’s industrial landscape and exploring potential collaboration models.
As one of Switzerland’s top universities and a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), FHNW is internationally recognized in fields such as business economics, information systems, financial management, and public management. Known for its practice-oriented and international development strategy, the university has established partnerships with over 170 higher education institutions worldwide and operates centers such as the Swiss SME Research Center and the Southeast Asia Center to drive academic research and cross-border talent development.
During their visit, the FHNW delegation also engaged with various organizations in central Taiwan for practical and diverse exchanges. On August 25, accompanied by Professor Lee, Tzong-Ru, the delegation visited the Taichung City Government, where they were received by Director Lin Ku-Long of the Digital Affairs Bureau and Director Lin Ting-Chao of the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission. The two sides held in-depth discussions on digital governance and smart city development. The delegation also visited renowned machinery companies in central Taiwan to explore the latest trends in smart manufacturing and observed green building projects, gaining first-hand insights valuable for both academic research and practical applications.
NCHU stated that it looks forward to expanding its multifaceted collaboration with FHNW. Through joint research, student exchange programs, and strengthened industry linkages, the university aims to cultivate professionals with a global perspective and innovative thinking to meet the challenges of globalization.
