National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) and National Taipei University (NTPU) share a long and profound historical bond. On October 3, NTPU President Daw-Tung Lin and NTPU Alumni Association President Ming-Jen Hsu led a delegation south to Taichung to visit NCHU President Fuh-Jyh Jan and his administrative team for a meeting and exchange. Continuing the tradition of mutual visits—initiated two years ago when President Jan, in his first year in office, led a delegation to NTPU—President Lin’s return visit this year, shortly after taking office in August, carries special symbolic meaning.

In his remarks, President Fuh-Jyh Jan expressed appreciation for the alumni associations of both universities, whose efforts made the previous exchange possible. “Two years ago in October, I led the NCHU administrative team to visit NTPU, marking a new beginning for renewed cooperation between the two universities,” he said. “Now, President Lin has continued this tradition by arranging a return visit during the first week of October—an occasion of deep significance.”

President Jan highlighted that the two universities have shared a history spanning more than six decades, from their merger in 1961 to their independent development since 2000. Their respective academic strengths complement each other. He expressed hope that the two universities would deepen collaboration, especially in the humanities and social sciences and in interdisciplinary fields, to jointly enhance their influence in Taiwan and beyond.

In his speech, President Daw-Tung Lin described the visit as a “journey of learning and exchange.” He noted that arranging this visit soon after assuming office was not only a response to NCHU’s visit two years ago but also an opportunity to foster closer interaction between the two institutions. He shared that his father-in-law was a senior professor in NCHU’s Department of Chinese Literature, making this visit feel like “a return to my extended family.”

President Lin noted that NTPU is known for its strengths in law, business, and social sciences, while NCHU excels in agriculture, environmental studies, engineering, and life sciences. “Our universities have distinct yet complementary advantages,” he said. “NTPU is now advancing in the direction of ‘cross-domain integration and AI empowerment,’ and we look forward to closer cooperation with NCHU in cultivating talents with social impact.”
