The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has announced its 2025 World University Rankings, placing National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) at No. 723 globally among more than 21,000 universities worldwide—positioning it within the top 3.4% globally, 9th in Taiwan, and 6th among national universities. This outstanding achievement highlights NCHU’s strong academic foundation, robust research performance, and growing international competitiveness.

CWUR: The Only Global Ranking Based Entirely on Public Data
Founded in 2012, CWUR is recognized as one of the world’s most reputable university ranking institutions. Unlike other systems, CWUR’s methodology is fully data-driven, transparent, and independent, relying solely on verified public data sources such as international databases, academic awards, and citation indices—without using surveys or self-reported data from universities.

CWUR evaluates universities based on four key pillars and seven indicators:
1. Quality of Education (25%) – Academic success of alumni, reflecting the depth of talent cultivation.
2. Alumni Employment (25%) – Career achievements of alumni at leading global companies.
3. Quality of Faculty (10%) – Number of faculty members receiving prestigious academic honors.
4. Research Performance (40%) – Research output, publications in top journals, and citation impact.

The world’s top five universities in the 2025 CWUR ranking are Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, and University of Oxford, underscoring CWUR’s global credibility and influence.

Educational Excellence: Fostering Interdisciplinary Innovation and a Global Sustainability Mindset
NCHU places interdisciplinary innovation and self-directed learning at the core of its educational mission. The university promotes cross-college programs and micro-credit courses, empowering students to design personalized study paths aligned with their interests and career goals. Through innovative general education courses and digital learning platforms, students develop creativity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning skills.

In response to global sustainability challenges, NCHU established the first Academy of Circular Economy in Taiwan, integrating engineering, agriculture, biotechnology, management, and social sciences to advance green technologies and sustainable business models. The university continues to expand internationalization by offering English-Medium Instruction (EMI) and full-English programs, as well as dual-degree and exchange partnerships with leading universities in Europe, the United States, and Southeast Asia—broadening students’ global horizons and competitiveness.

Career Readiness: Strengthening Industry Collaboration and Entrepreneurial Innovation
To enhance student employability, NCHU’s Academia-Industry Collaboration Center fosters partnerships with industries in agriculture, semiconductors, AI, renewable energy, net-zero innovation, and biomedical technology, creating co-innovation platforms and internship opportunities that bridge theory and practice.
The STARTUP@NCHU Innovation Center further cultivates entrepreneurial talent by supporting more than one hundred student-led startup projects, many of which have garnered national innovation awards. Through its “Interdisciplinary Learning + Industry Collaboration + Startup Incubation” strategy, NCHU empowers students to become workplace-ready, forward-thinking innovators.

Faculty Excellence: Recruiting Top Global Talent and Driving Academic Distinction
NCHU is dedicated to building a world-class faculty through international recruitment and talent development. With revised Regulations on the Recruitment and Appointment of Top Global Talent and a flexible pay system, the university has successfully recruited ten Yushan Fellows and Yushan Young Fellows, along with distinguished scholars from the United States, Japan, and Europe.

NCHU faculty members have earned major national and international honors, including Academia Sinica Academician, NSTC Outstanding Research Award, Ta-You Wu Memorial Award, Future Tech Award, and National Innovation Award. According to Stanford University’s 2025 World’s Top 2% Scientists List, 75 NCHU faculty members are recognized globally—ranking fifth among Taiwanese universities—a testament to the university’s academic leadership and global research influence.

Research Impact: Top 1% Globally in Ten ESI Disciplines
NCHU continues to strengthen its research ecosystem through incentive programs such as the Regulations on Academic Research Incentives and Regulations on Rewards for Adjunct Chair Professors’ Publications, providing funding for publication fees and integrating research outcomes into the flexible pay system. These efforts have fueled steady growth in research productivity and global impact—placing NCHU within the top 4% worldwide for research influence.

The university ranks in the top 1% globally across ten Essential Science Indicators (ESI) fields: Agricultural Sciences, Plant and Animal Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology and Biochemistry, Materials Science, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Social Sciences, and Environment and Ecology.
Supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education’s Higher Education SPROUT Project, NCHU consistently ranks fifth nationwide in funding performance, backed by three flagship research centers:
• Advanced Plant and Food Crop Biotechnology Center
• Innovation and Development Center of Sustainable Agriculture
• iEGG and Animal Biotechnology Research Center
Additionally, the Smart Sustainable New Agriculture Research Center—recipient of the nation’s top NSTC AI Program Grant—integrates agriculture, science, engineering, and social sciences to advance climate adaptation, precision agriculture, and green energy, reinforcing NCHU’s leadership in sustainable research and innovation.

Looking Ahead: Advancing Five Strategic Strengths Toward Global Excellence
NCHU will continue to integrate its five core strengths—Agri-Food Biotechnology, Smart Manufacturing, Medical and Health Care, Green Energy and Carbon Reduction, and Information Excellence—to accelerate high-level talent cultivation, research innovation, and industry collaboration. With cutting-edge technology and interdisciplinary partnerships, NCHU aims to further enhance its global visibility and move steadily toward becoming a world-class research university.
