To further advance University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives and strengthen ties with local communities, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) has established the Local Care and Community Revitalization Hub at its Nantou Branch in Chung Hsing New Village. The unveiling ceremony was held on December 15, drawing representatives from local government agencies, academia, the medical sector, and community residents. The event also marked the launch of township gazetteer compilation projects in Mingjian Township and Xinyi Township in Nantou County, as well as Yuanchang Township in Yunlin County, underscoring NCHU’s long-term commitment to local history preservation and community development.
Serving as NCHU’s USR base in Nantou, the Hub will host seasonal exhibitions and organize two to three workshops, lectures, and community engagement activities each month. By integrating resources from diverse sectors, the Hub aims to foster local revitalization and sustainable development.

NCHU’s USR resident teams span a wide range of disciplines, including the Colleges of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Life Sciences, Law and Politics, Management, Liberal Arts, Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. More than 50 faculty members, staff, and students from five major USR teams and the USR Administrative Office will take turns being stationed at the Hub. Their initiatives encompass free medical consultations and health education for residents, pet health checkups, horticultural therapy workshops for seniors, science education outreach for elementary and junior high school students, community development programs, and environmental restoration projects. In addition to serving as a base for teaching and research, the Hub plans to offer exhibition spaces and shared offices for rent, making them available to nonprofit organizations, local groups, and young entrepreneurs returning to their hometowns.

On the day of the unveiling, the NCHU USR Office curated a special exhibition, showcasing the achievements of eight USR teams. In collaboration with local partners, a vibrant community fair was also held, featuring orthopedic health consultations, free veterinary clinics for cats and dogs, floral wreath DIY workshops, river and bridge science hands-on activities, and native species identification sessions. These activities brought NCHU’s long-standing USR initiatives directly into Chung Hsing New Village.

The unveiling ceremony also included the official launch of the township gazetteer compilation projects. Led by Professor Hou Chia-Hsing, Chair of the Department of History at NCHU, teams will work with Mingjian Township in Nantou County and Yuanchang Township in Yunlin County on the compilation of the Revised Mingjian Township Gazetteer and the Yuanchang Township Gazetteer. In addition, NCHU is collaborating with Professor Cheng An-Hsi, Chair of the Department of Regional and Social Development at National Taichung University of Education, to compile the Xinyi Township Gazetteer. The projects aim to complete all three gazetteers between 2026 and 2027, preserving systematic historical records and cultural memory for the communities.

NCHU President Fuh-Jyh Jan noted that since the University began operating in the southern core of Chung Hsing New Village in 2022, it has undertaken the mission of supporting site transformation and promoting regional development in Nantou. Over the past three years, he expressed gratitude to the Executive Yuan, the National Development Council, the Nantou County Government, and various local partners for their continued support. The unveiling of the Local Care and Community Revitalization Hub, he said, represents a key platform for bringing the University’s expertise and resources directly into the community. Looking ahead, NCHU will continue to collaborate with medical institutions to provide free clinics and health education, deploy veterinary teams for pet health services, and promote age-friendly and intergenerational programs to deepen local engagement. The launch of the township gazetteer projects will further establish a lasting foundation for preserving local history and ensuring cultural sustainability.
