As the year draws to a close and winter settles in, the Experimental Forest Management Office of National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) held its annual “2026 Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony” on December 19 at the grand meadow of Huisun Experimental Forest Station.

More than a ceremonial tradition of “lighting hope,” this year’s event placed a special emphasis on gratitude—a heartfelt tribute to all employees who have worked tirelessly in the mountain forests throughout the year. The event also served as an opportunity to share warmth and festive blessings with attending guests and visitors.

This year’s lighting design centers on the theme “Love. Energy. Sharing.” The 12-meter-tall steel main installation rises prominently from the meadow, projecting a striking visual presence. Its concept draws from the power of love and the generosity of sharing. At its peak shines a radiant “Heart of the Tree,” symbolizing the guiding spirit of NCHU—sending blessings, care, and vitality outward into the world.

As night fell, flickering “firefly lights” danced among the Calocedrus forest, creating a romantic winter spectacle that drew admiration from visitors. Combined with projected illumination that washes over the surrounding trees, Huisun has been transformed into a warm and vibrant holiday landmark. Following the ceremony, the Tree of Hope will continue to glow through February 28, 2026, accompanying guests throughout the winter season and Lunar New Year.
The event’s planning demonstrated thoughtful care for frontline staff. To ensure comfort and functionality for personnel working outdoors in cold mountain conditions, the organizers arranged for all employees to don new winter-duty jackets, offering high-performance windproof and thermal protection for both mobility and warmth while on duty.

NCHU President Fuh-Jyh Jan presided over the lighting ceremony. In his remarks, he stated: “The achievements of Huisun today are made possible not only by colleagues guarding the forest and serving visitors on the frontline, but also by the longstanding support and guidance of our distinguished guests and mentors. Your partnership—like tonight’s lights—illuminates the path toward sustainable development for our forest.”

Beyond honoring staff contributions, the evening program delivered rich and diverse highlights. A special “Forest Buffet Feast” was presented at dinner, featuring a roasted hog prepared with indigenous culinary partners and Huatung chicken (sourced by College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dean Chih-Feng Chen) cooked in fragrant sesame-oil style.

The performances embraced local culture, with students from Huzhu Elementary School presenting Atayal jaw harp music and a blessing dance, followed by a prayer and lighting led by the pastor of the Meiyuan Presbyterian Church.
During the lighting exhibition period, Huisun will roll out promotional activities. Visitors who complete designated social media interactions will receive one native sapling and one accommodation voucher for Huisun—a gesture that pairs symbolic blessings with opportunities to enjoy the forest firsthand, encouraging public participation in sustainable forestry.

Huisun Experimental Forest Station warmly invites communities, partners, and travelers from all walks of life to experience this shared energy of love and hope—letting the glow of winter lights inspire heartfelt wishes for the year ahead.
