National Chung-Hsing University and Royal Project Foundation of Thailand signed cooperation agreement.  The cooperation was signed by Dr. Shieu Fuh-Sheng(right), President of the NCHU and His Serene Highness Prince Bhisadej Rajani, President of the Royal Project.

National Chung-Hsing University and Royal Project Foundation of Thailand signed cooperation agreement on June 14, 2016. The cooperation was signed by Dr. Shieu Fuh-Sheng, President of the National Chung Hsing University and His Serene Highness Prince Bhisadej Rajani, President of the Royal Project. Cooperation between the University and the Royal Project had commenced in 2005, embarking on the Project’s first academic cooperative agreement with an University in Taiwan. Based on the long lasting great relationship that they have enjoyed, both parties have pledged to deepen cooperation with the renewed agreement.

The “Golden Triangle”, where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet, once earned worldwide reputation as a large opium poppy cultivation area. In 1969, his Serene Highness Prince Bhisadej Rajani led the “The Doi Tung Development Project” (which later became known as the Royal Project Foundation of Thailand in 1993) and made remarkable progress in sharply reducing opium poppy production, in exchange for farming in high-value fruits and vegetables. The concerted efforts has not only set a great example in highlands agriculture and forestation, but also gained recognition as a contributor to social peace in the international society. In 1995, Chung-Hsing University awarded a Honorary Ph.D. degree to his Serene Highness Prince Bhisadej Rajani for his extraordinary achievements in the agriculture industry.

The Royal Project has long been supported by the National Veterans Affairs Council, R.O.C. Since 1982, Chung-Hsing University took part in assisting with the Council with welcoming technical experts of the Royal Project to Taiwan. Since 1990s, other than arranging the visits from the Prince, experts and technicians, the University has also helped sending Taiwan’s experts to Northern Thailand, as consultants for promoting the activities. Research student teams were sent to the Royal farms or vocational training camps.

Chung Hsing University’s retired Professor of Forestry and Gardening, Dr. Yau-Shiang Yang(楊耀祥), has been providing assistance in the agricultural farming for twenty years in Northern Thailand. Dr. Yau-Shiang Yang(楊耀祥)has led in the planning of demonstration farms, training technical experts, guided the planting of papayas, persimmons, peaches, mandarin oranges, grapes and etc. His Serene Highness Prince Bhisadej Rajani regarded Dr. Yau-Shiang Yang(楊耀祥) a valuable agriculture expert as he was much depended on for the transition of opium poppy to fruit cultivation.

Chung-Hsing University and Royal Thai family has been collaborating and maintaining a close relationship for more than thirty years. Chung-Hsin University and the Royal Project Foundation continues to strengthen good friendship and will further establish cooperation ties with universities in Thailand that are renowned in the agricultural field, such as the Thailand Agriculture University, Ching Mai University, Mekong State University and Khon Kaen University.
