As the university application season enters the critical stage of portfolio submission, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) held its “2026 Open House & Academic and Club Expo” on April 11 at the plaza in front of Huishun Hall. The event aimed to help high school students and parents make informed application choices.

This year’s expo brought together 38 academic departments and 20 student clubs, featuring a total of 65 booths that highlighted the university’s teaching and research strengths. In addition, NCHU introduced 10 “Open House” tour routes for the first time, expected to attract thousands of students and teachers from across Taiwan.

Opening Advanced Laboratories to the Public: A Close Look at Smart Agriculture and Sustainable Engineering
Through its Open House series, NCHU demonstrated its strong research capabilities by opening access to a wide range of top-tier academic resources. Ten curated departmental tour routes were designed, including Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Life Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Law, Applied Economics, and Chinese Literature. These tours allowed students to step directly into laboratories and specialized classrooms.

Following the positive feedback from last year’s Open House visits to departments such as Plant Pathology, Entomology, Life Sciences, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. Meanwhile, the Departments of Law and Chinese Literature hosted themed lectures, and the Department of Applied Economics opened the Charles H.C.Kao Institute of Knowledge Economy, offering students an opportunity to experience academic environments firsthand.

Practical Admission Strategies: Associate Vice President Shares Tips on Portfolio Preparation
To address one of the biggest concerns for prospective university students, NCHU organized four keynote sessions focused on application strategies. These sessions provided a comprehensive overview of admission pathways and interdisciplinary learning opportunities at the university.

Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Chen Tzu-Ling, joined outstanding senior students to share practical insights under the theme “Mastering Your Learning Portfolio.” They offered guidance on how to highlight individual strengths from extensive materials, helping applicants stand out in interviews.

Intercollegiate Club Performances: From Street Dance to Indigenous Culture
The opening performance featured a joint show by the street dance club of NCHU Affiliated Senior High School and the Indigenous Culture Club of NCHU Affiliated Agricultural High School, showcasing strong cultural roots and local connections.
This was followed by performances from seven NCHU student clubs, including string ensemble, guzheng, a cappella, indigenous dance, light dance, jazz music, and cheerleading teams. These performances allowed visiting high school students to experience the vibrant campus life and diverse cultural atmosphere at NCHU.
From Browsing Websites to Experiencing Campus Firsthand

Through the expo and on-site laboratory visits, high school students can move beyond simply selecting departments based on online information. Instead, they can observe real research environments, interact with specimens, and engage directly with professors—ultimately helping them identify the academic path that best suits their interests.
