The InSEA Asia Regional Congress 2026: “Interweaving and Co-Creation: Diverse Pathways of Arts Education” will take place from May 15 to 16, 2026. The conference is jointly organized by National Chung Hsing University and National Changhua University of Education. The program on May 16 will be held at the Humanities Building of National Chung Hsing University and is coordinated by Associate Professor Hsin-Yi Chao, Chair of the InSEA Asia Regional Council and affiliated with the Program in Digital Humanities and Creative Industries and the Graduate Institute of Library and Information Science.
Centered on cross-cultural exchange and diverse practices in arts education, the conference is expected to bring together scholars and practitioners from Taiwan and around the world to explore contemporary developments and innovative possibilities in the field.
The International Society for Education through Art (InSEA), founded in 1954, is an official partner organization of UNESCO dedicated to advancing global arts education, fostering intercultural understanding, and advocating for cultural rights. This congress is officially endorsed by the InSEA Executive Committee and will feature distinguished scholars from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Egypt, South Korea, the United States, Japan, and beyond. The program includes keynote lectures, paper presentations, and poster sessions. InSEA President Patsey Bodkin will also attend in person, further strengthening international networks and collaboration in arts education. The event will provide opportunities for in-depth exchange among international scholars, as well as faculty members, students, and researchers at the host institutions, encouraging cross-cultural and interdisciplinary dialogue.
The conference is structured around four major themes: “Healing Practices and Social Empathy,” “Arts Teaching and Learning Practices,” “Research and Knowledge Innovation in Arts Education,” and “Technological Applications and Interdisciplinary Futures.” These themes address key issues in arts education, including curriculum and pedagogical innovation, theoretical development, technological integration, and social engagement. They also resonate with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in relation to quality education, equity, and partnerships.
Through a diverse range of formats—including keynote talks, academic paper presentations, and poster exhibitions—the conference highlights both theoretical and practical developments in arts education, while extending discussions to areas such as cultural and creative industries, digital humanities, and interdisciplinary teaching. By creating multiple platforms for exchange, the congress aims to foster dialogue and collaboration across cultural contexts and educational systems, thereby expanding global perspectives in arts education.
In addition, the conference integrates institutional resources and aligns with higher education development initiatives, bringing together research, teaching, and international engagement. It reflects National Chung Hsing University’s ongoing commitment to advancing the internationalization and interdisciplinary development of arts and humanities education.
As a major academic event for arts education in Asia, the InSEA Asia Regional Congress 2026 not only facilitates exchanges among research, educational practice, and social engagement, but also opens up new possibilities for dialogue and co-creation across schools, communities, cultural institutions, and interdisciplinary contexts.
