The Chinese Language Center at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) hosted the “2026 Forum on DTBLT and AI-Integrated Lesson Plan Design: From Practice to Showcase” on September 26. The forum brought together more than 110 Chinese language teachers and researchers from across Taiwan to explore innovative approaches to Chinese language education, with a focus on task-based teaching, digital tools, and artificial intelligence.

Held both in person and online, the forum featured a keynote presentation, lesson plan presentations, and expert feedback sessions. These activities provided a platform for participants to share practical experiences and exchange ideas on incorporating new teaching approaches and digital technologies into Chinese language instruction.

The event opened with remarks by Zheng-Xian Wu, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at NCHU, who expressed his appreciation to Professor Hao-Ting Mai of the Chinese Language Center for her efforts in organizing the event. He also encouraged continued innovation in Chinese language education and thanked teachers from across Taiwan for joining the event during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

Professor Hong-Gang Jin Shares DTBLT Principles and Practices
The forum was organized as part of the Ministry of Education’s Foreign Students' Chinese Language Proficiency Enhancement Program. The keynote speaker, Professor Hong-Gang Jin, Professor Emeritus of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Hamilton College, introduced the key concepts of Deconstructive Task-Based Language Teaching (DTBLT) and shared practical examples of using DTBLT in teaching and lesson plan design.

During the forum, Professor Jin also shared her experience working with more than 40 teachers over the past six months to explore and apply the DTBLT approach to Chinese language teaching. The program began with an introduction to the core concepts of DTBLT and gradually moved into lesson plan development. Teachers also used an AI chatbot designed specifically for DTBLT to analyze tasks, plan classroom activities, and develop lesson plans.

The program also featured DTBLT songs co-created by Professor Jin and participating teachers with the help of AI. By turning key teaching concepts into songs, the activity provided a creative and engaging way for participants to better understand the core ideas of DTBLT.

11 Teams Showcase Their Lesson Plan Projects
Another highlight of the forum was a showcase of lesson plans developed through the program. A total of 11 teams presented their work, demonstrating how DTBLT principles can be incorporated into Chinese language teaching activities across a variety of topics and learning contexts.

Following the lesson plan presentations, experts in Chinese language education—including Professor Hsiu-Hui Ou of National Taichung University of Education, Professor Zhao-Min Shu of National Taitung University, Professor Yen-Chiu Chen of Kainan University, and Professor Hsin-Hui Chen of National Chung Cheng University—provided feedback on the projects. Their comments focused on learning objectives, task design, classroom activities, lesson plan development, and practical classroom applications.

The presenters also reflected on their experiences throughout the program, sharing how their understanding of DTBLT developed as they worked on their lesson plans. They discussed the ideas they explored, the challenges they encountered, and the insights they gained from putting DTBLT into practice.

By bringing together keynote insights, hands-on lesson plan projects, and expert discussion, the forum gave participants an opportunity to explore both the principles and practical applications of DTBLT. The lesson plans and examples of AI-assisted teaching also demonstrated how AI can be incorporated into Chinese language lesson design, providing new ideas and perspectives for the continued development of Chinese language education in Taiwan.
