Faculty and students from the School of Business at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) visited National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) in Taichung on October 3, 2026, for a study trip presentation and academic exchange.
Facilitated by Professor Tzong-Ru Lee of NCHU’s Department of Marketing, the program featured a keynote presentation by Professor Ching-Chih Tsai, Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at NCHU, followed by group presentations by FHNW students. The event fostered interdisciplinary dialogue on topics ranging from artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology to business management and supply chain resilience, further strengthening academic exchange and international collaboration between NCHU and FHNW.
Professor Tzong-Ru Lee Facilitates Taiwan–Switzerland Exchange and Expands Collaboration in AI and Industrial Innovation
Professor Tzong-Ru Lee of NCHU’s Department of Marketing has long been engaged in international academic and industry collaboration. He currently serves as a member of the International Advisory Board of the Institute of Management, School of Business, at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). In this role, he continues to facilitate collaboration between Taiwan and Switzerland in academic research, industry engagement, and international talent exchange.
The partnership has also continued to expand into the areas of artificial intelligence and industrial innovation. In July this year, FHNW Professor Rolf Meyer was invited to Taiwan as an international forum speaker at AI WAVE SHOW 2026, where he shared insights into how AI can create new business value from the perspectives of business management and innovation.
Through international events and reciprocal visit programs, the collaboration between NCHU and FHNW has grown beyond one-time academic visits into an interdisciplinary network spanning management, technology, industry, and talent development. These initiatives are also creating new opportunities for future academic and industry collaboration between Taiwan and Switzerland.
Dean Ching-Chih Tsai Highlights NCHU’s Research and Education in AI and Semiconductor Technology
During the event on October 3, Professor Ching-Chih Tsai, Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Co mputer Science at NCHU, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Research and Education on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Semiconductor Technology (ST) in the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, NCHU,” in which he introduced the Swiss delegation to NCHU's achievements in research and talent development in these fields.
Dean Ching-Chih Tsai introduced the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science’s research initiatives in artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, AIoT, computer vision, intelligent control, AI chip design, and smart semiconductors. He also highlighted NCHU’s progress in semiconductor talent development and industry–academia collaboration.
Through the keynote speech, FHNW faculty members and students gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s development in artificial intelligence and the semiconductor industry. From the perspectives of university research, talent cultivation, and industry engagement, they were also able to learn how NCHU is responding to the rapidly growing demand for talent and technological innovation driven by advances in AI and semiconductors.
Seven FHNW Student Teams Present Their Findings: Cross-National Dialogue on Building Resilient Supply Chains
Following the keynote speech, the event moved on to FHNW student presentations. FHNW students were divided into seven groups to share their observations, analyses, and learning outcomes from their Study Trip in Taiwan.
The presentations covered a wide range of topics related to business management, industrial development, and supply chains. One group focused on the question, “How Can Resilient Supply Chains Be Built?” and examined how companies can rethink supply chain strategies and corporate resilience amid rapid changes in global markets, increasing geopolitical risks, and growing supply chain uncertainty.
Through the group presentations and interactions during the Study Trip, the Swiss students not only transformed their observations of Taiwan’s industries and management practices into concrete analyses, but also engaged in discussions with NCHU faculty members and students, bringing together perspectives shaped by different cultural and industrial backgrounds. The presentations therefore served not only as a summary of the Study Trip, but also as a platform for both the Taiwanese and Swiss participants to share perspectives and learn from one another.
Strengthening Taiwan–Switzerland Academic Exchange and Expanding Interdisciplinary Collaboration and International Talent Development
During the FHNW delegation’s visit to Taiwan, in addition to academic exchanges and student presentations at NCHU, participants also gained first-hand exposure to real-world practices in industrial development, smart cities, digital transformation, and advanced manufacturing in Taiwan and Taichung through a series of site visits.
These experiences enabled students to connect topics in business management and strategy discussed in the classroom with real-world industrial contexts.
Professor Tzong-Ru Lee of the Department of Marketing at NCHU noted that international exchange is not only about sharing academic knowledge, but, more importantly, about creating long-term opportunities for interaction among students, faculty members, and industry partners.
Through the visit and student presentations by the FHNW delegation, both institutions further strengthened the foundation for cross-national and interdisciplinary collaboration. Looking ahead, the two sides hope to continue expanding cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, sustainable development, supply chain management, business innovation, and talent development, thereby deepening academic and industrial connections between Taiwan and Switzerland.
Finally, special thanks are extended to the two FHNW faculty leaders, Prof. Andreas Hinz and Prof. Beat Birkenmeier; Ms. Daniela Rothe, Manager; as well as three graduate students from the Department of Marketing at National Chung Hsing University—Chen Chih-Neng, Wu Yu-Hsuan, and Yang Shu-Yu—for their valuable assistance and support throughout the program.
