The University had invited Tsai Chi-chang(蔡其昌), Chairman, Alumni Association of NCHU and Vice Chairman of the Legislative Yuan, Huang Kuo-shu(黃國書), Legislator and Outstanding Alumni, NCHU, and H. E. Dilmei L. Olkeriil, the Republic of Palau's Ambassador to the ROC to be guest participants of the commencement.
Addressing in his speech during the commencement ceremony, Shieu Fuh-Sheng(薛富盛), President of National Chung Hsing University referred to the General Douglas MacArthur’s prayer for his son, that parents pray for their children to be led not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.
President Shieu also quoted from the Chinese poet, Su Dongpo’s famous poem, “…Then he will crown a tranquil life by becoming a cabinet minister.” His reference to these well-known words relates fully to high parental expectations.
He further encourages new graduates to always embrace themselves with passion, devotion and perseverance, for they are good values that could shape one’s personalities for the better and managing hurdles in life.
This year, there are 20 new graduates from National Chung Hsing University’s offered Bachelor Program of Agribusiness. They comprises of 12 domestic students and 8 foreign students from Guatemala, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Vietnam, Saint Lucia and Palau.
He Hao(何灝), one of the new graduates from the Agribusiness program, has achieved outstanding results in both language skills and program related courses. He has been accepted to three renowned universities, namely, University of Wisconsin, University of California at Davis, University at British Columbia. He will begin his Agricultural Economics Graduate Program at the University of Wisconsin soon in September.
In fact, He Hao(何灝) has been an exchange student of UC Davis during his junior year. While he was in UC Davis, he recalled being in a very different surrounding college environment and peer groups, and because of this, it has motivated him to contemplate on his life direction. He was determined to study abroad after completing his education at the Chung Hsing University.
In this regards, he said that the English-taught Agribusiness program at the university, not only enhances one’s language ability, but also expanding the horizons through pluralistic peer interaction and learning environment. He Hao(何灝) further suggests to his fellow students to seize the opportunity to apply for student exchange to any of the National Chung Hsing University’s sister universities, as he perceived that living abroad for a certain period of time can be helpful for one to decide whether if they should pursue a degree abroad.
