NCHU embarked on renovating a fifty year old campus building. The school decided that the renovated building should be used as working space for innovators and startup teams. The facility was officially opened on July 26, 2017 and is named the NCHU Innovation Center. The building has three floors and total space of roughly 74 square foot (240坪), consisting of a common working area, the innovator space and start up workshop. It is opened to all faculty and students for application starting from September, 2017.

The NCHU Innovation Center was originally built in 1969 for the applied economics faculty. It has stood for more than half a century and is in bad shape. With the support of Shieu Fuh-Sheng(薛富盛), President of NCHU , the building was then officially under renovation. It took 18 months for completion. The hard and soft remodeling costs was approximately NT$10 million and they included constructing and removing walls, alterations to ventilation, plumbing and etc. The Innovation Center is to be used for startup programs, entrepreneurship consultation sessions, launch sessions, fund raising sessions and also, the physical space for developers. In total, the Center can be expected to take up at least 25 teams.

In June this year, Wang Kuo-Hsiung(王國雄), an EMBA alumni of NCHU, fundraised and established the “Meng Ya Venture Capital Co., Ltd.”(萌芽創投公司). The company was the first startup team to move into the Innovation Center. In fact, “Meng Ya Venture Capital Co., Ltd.” is also the very first angel venture capital in Taiwan having only alumni of NCHU as its shareholders and investing in spinoff companies from NCHU. Meng Ya’s 38 shareholders are all EMBA alumni and fundraised NTD20.2million of funds in total. The company’s main role is to provide mentoring, consultation to faculty and student teams and in times of need, provide venture capital to entrepreneurs.

NCHU has been encouraging startups for many years. In November 2011, it has successfully established the one and only Germination Center(萌芽功能中心) in west-central Taiwan. NCHU hopes to discover more creative and original ideas in the school and building on the foundation of collaborative efforts and resources from the management school faculty, NCHU courses on entrepreneurship and Ministry of Education’s incubation programs. All in all, integrating efforts from the school and the society, and resources from cross cutting sectors in support of fostering entrepreneurship, startups is becoming a popular trend in NCHU.
