Agriculture Innovation Focus and Cluster NCHU unveils the office of industry academia international alliance in agriculture innovation

National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) held an unveiling and signing ceremony of the office of industry academia international alliance in agriculture innovation on March 14, 2018. The offices are set up at the main campus of NCHU and also in North America and South East Asia. All three offices are now officially in operation. At the same time, several established enterprises such as Maxluck Biotech Corp. (特福生技), Diamond Nano Biochem Co, Ltd(台茂生技), Golden Crops Corp.(鈺統食品)and TCI Co, Ltd(大江生醫) joined the alliance as joint efforts in promoting Taiwan’s achievements in agriculture biotechnology, smart machinery and biomedical materials and gaining impact of clustering.

The alliance focuses itself on “agriculture innovation” and puts emphasis on two areas, “forward looking agriculture biotech” and “circular economy in new agriculture”. The alliance plays the critical role in bridging academia and industry cooperation. The alliance commits to collectively enhance Taiwan’s R&D in agriculture and also internationalize academia industrial cooperation deliverables.
The industry academia international alliance in agriculture innovation’s five priority areas include new innovative businesses, industry and academia cooperation, technology transfer, membership promotion and cultivation of global human resources. In future, it would connect with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, College of Veterinary Science and College of Life Sciences to create a strategic alliance platform, emphasizing the achievements in many years of concrete research, particularly in areas such as biotechnology in agriculture and biofertilizer, healthy seedlings and virus prevention, health food and natural drugs and etc. are to tackle problems the industry is facing and also cultivate global human resources so that new international cooperation channel can be established.

Shieu Fuh-Sheng(薛富盛), President of NCHU said that since NCHU was established first as an agricultural college and prides itself in biotech R&D outstanding achievements. NCHU was also awarded NT$3.2 million subsidy by the Ministry of Technology in the “international academia industry alliance” project and NCHU ranked one of the top five schools in Taiwan in total amount of subsidy received. Hence, Shieu Fuh-Sheng(薛富盛) expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Technology and also the Ministry of Agriculture as this subsidy supported the establishment of the alliance, which also means that Taiwan has embarked on a new milestone, transferring itself from focus on manufacturing to industrial innovation. In the future, NCHU would collaborate with the industrial sector in central Taiwan and also nearby academia and research resources, in the hope that internationalization of Taiwan’s agriculture development could take foot in central Taiwan and facing the whole world.

Membership of the alliance typically consists of three types: international members, domestic gold members and general members. At the current stage, Maxluck Biotech Corp.(特福生技) has joined as the alliance as an international global member, Diamond Nano Biochem Co, Ltd(台茂生技), Golden Crops Corp.(鈺統食品) and TCI Co, Ltd(大江生醫) joined the alliance as domestic members. The alliance started off with excellent outcomes, specifically, the very first academia industry cooperation project was signed on the day of the unveiling ceremony. The signing ceremony for the project was represented by Huang Jenn-Wen(黃振文) ,vice dean of NCHU and Get Green Energy(光宇材料), while LAI Ping-Shan(賴秉杉), vice dean of the College of Science and Taiwan Bio Hypoxic Technology(寶信生醫)signed agreement for the technology transfer cooperation project.
