NCHU delegation visits Sri Lanka and promotes exchanges and cooperation with 4 universities

National Chung Hsing University, NCHU promotes new southbound activities and actively engages with the Sri Lankan academic community through academic exchanges, and recruiting outstanding Sri Lankan students through legal channels. Currently, there are not more than a hundred Sri Lankan students in Taiwan and there is potential market for recruiting Sri Lankan overseas students in higher education.
Jen-Fon Jen（鄭政峯）, Vice President of NCHU led a seven persons delegation to its sister school, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, that include Chen-Yu Yeh（葉鎮宇）, Director, Sustainable Energy and Nano Technology Research Center, 宋振銘, Professor, Department of Engineering, and Zingway Pei（裴靜偉）, Dean, College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from November 26 to December 2, 2018. The delegation visited four of the top five universities that include University of Kelaniya, University of Colombo and University of Sri Jayewardenepura. In addition to discussing about recruiting students, academia exchange of ideas and possible cooperation areas were also included. There was mutual understanding on the academia MOU among NCHU, University of Kelaniya, University of Colombo (UC) and etc. in this trip and it is now in process.
NCHU delegation also visited the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS), the country's highest academic research institution. The institution expressed exceptionally interest in its cooperation with NCHU on sustainable projects, such as energy and environment. NIFS had sought to establish with NCHU an international academic exchange platform.
NCHU has close exchange with Sri Lanka. On June 1 last year, NCHU and an academic delegation from its sister university, University of Peradeniya jointly hosted the second "2018 Taiwan-Sri Lanka Academic Exchange Network" seminar at the 惠蓀林場in Taichung to discuss topics that include energy, environment and nanotechnology. The seminar had formed the solid foundation for bilateral academic exchanges between Taiwan and Sir Lanka.
During this trip, NCHU delegation also discussed with the various institutions in Sri Lanka to host the third bilateral international seminar in Sri Lanka in April this year. The theme of the conference will be on “air pollution” and “water pollution”. Experts and scholars from both countries would be invited to discuss preventive and improvement solutions.
