Three well-known higher education institutions in Taichung City are 100 years old this year. National Chung Hsing University, Taichung University of Science and Technology and Taichung Girls’ Senior High School got together to hold a joint sports meet at NCHU campus on October 19th for celebration. Taichung Mayor Shiow-Yen Lu especially attended the opening ceremony to offer congratulations. There were five participating schools in the sports meet including National Chung Hsing University, NCHU Affiliated Senior High School, NCHU Affiliated Agricultural & Vocational Senior High School, Taichung University of Science and Technology and Taichung Girls’ Senior High School. Total 300 family members of school staff were expected to visit the activities. The five schools met together for the ball games, celebrating their 100th birthday.
“The three schools have 100 years of history. They are the leading education institutions in Taiwan, and the lights of Taichung City. Over the past 100 years the three schools have grown together. And today they get together by means of ball games. How innovative it is!” said Mayor Shiow-Yen Lu. She specially, on behalf of Taichung City Government and Taichung citizens, wished the three schools a happy birthday and prosperity. She said that Taichung City Government would always be the best supporter of the schools.
“These three schools are the domestic indicators of higher education institutions. Taichung City is proud of them. It is a rare event, domestically or overseas, that three schools of a great city celebrate their 100th birthdays in the same year. Our educational circles are facing the challenge of low birth rate and the chance of transformation. The three schools will continue to closely cooperate with one another and share the educational resources to create a good example for Taiwan educational circles.” said NCHU President Fuh-Sheng Shieu.
The performances in the opening ceremony, such as sports cheer squad of NCHU, group dance of aborigines, ensemble of traditional stringed and woodwind instruments music of Taichung Girls’ Senior High School and harmonica performance of Taichung University of Science and Technology, were very brilliant, noisy and fun, warming up the competitions before “Play ball”. Competition items consisted of basketball, badminton and table tennis. NCHU President Fuh-Sheng Shieu threw out the first pitch for the basketball game, NTCUST President Chun-Hung Hsieh and Principal Yung-Yen Chen of NCHU Affiliated Senior High School for the badminton game, and Principal Yu-Ling Hung of Taichung Girls’ Senior High School and Principal Meng-Feng Tsai of NCHU A&V School for the table tennis game.
