Hwalin Lee, Chairman of the American Chuan Lyu Foundation, donated US$80,000 to the Graduate Institute of Taiwan Literature and Transnational Cultural Studies of National Chung Hsing University in December 2020 to establish the "Chuan Lyu Taiwan Literature Writer-in-Residence", which is officially launched in the first half of 2021. Shuang-Tzu Yang, also an outstanding young generation novelist from National Chung Hsing University, was invited as the first writer-in-residence to hold a series of activities such as the special lectures, dialogues, creative workshops, etc., which we believe can bring the literary atmosphere of Taiwan in the new era to the campus.
The inaugural lecture was held on March 11 in the library of National Chung Hsing University, and President Fuh-Sheng Shieu, the head of National Chung Hsing University, specially came to give a speech. Shuang-Tzu Yang shared how the new generation of writers use their own literary attainments to find their own literary positions to respond to the contemporary social issues, show a stronger "inheritance" characteristics of literary life experience than the predecessor writers, so as to allow the participating students to think from what angle the literature can enter and deal with the social issues in the contemporary era.
The first creative workshop was enthusiastically held on March 24 at the B1 Hsing Yueh Workshop of National Chung Hsing University Library. The students can turn in their own creative works and have the in-depth discussions with Shuang-Tzu Yang, so that the writer can give the students the most straightforward opinion and direction on their works. The aspiring students who are just starting to write can find their hidden brilliance and effectively improve their writing skills. They can also realize the possibility of writing as a career and the firm value behind it by getting close to the words and deeds of the writer.
