To welcome the new year of 2022, National Chung Hsing University published the inaugural issue of the English newsletter "FIELD" in early January. The entire issue was conceived and edited by students, and students played the leading roles. It selected 10 major campus themes and used avant-garde and fashionable visual design, pairing up with National Chung Hsing University’s people, things and scenery. As soon as the advance notice came out, the students exclaimed "Wow! So cool" and "It is Vogue of university version"!
After half a year of preparation for "FIELD", 7 students selected from various departments by the Secretariat Office, NCHU formed an editorial group to carry out theme idea generation, shooting execution, and editing and typesetting. In view of students’ usual stereotypes about campus publications such as format style, lengthy text and group photos. "FIELD" attempts to use a fashionable and visual design, and adopts double covers - dark rock, and sunshine and freshness. Professor Hou-Feng Li from the Department of Entomology and NCHU undergraduate and graduate students are invited to serve as the cover people.
The front page of the newsletter features face paintings, showing four creatures: Malayan night heron, termite, rooster, and goat, and highlighting the characteristics of National Chung Hsing University. The shooting locations include rare bird houses and experimental farmland that seldom open in National Chung Hsing University, and other popular attractions such as the Black Forest, Chung Hsing Lake, and Comprehensive Teaching Building are presented in an alternative way. The sub-themes focus on National Chung Hsing University boba tea that you cannot miss, NCHU Commodity Market, and USR’s love for stray animals.
The characters in this shooting include 7 students and 2 teachers as models. 2 of them are French foreign students who present the Provence-style Black Forest, and Vietnamese foreign students highlight the power and beauty of weight training. Professor Wan-Yu Liu from the Department of Forestry combines heavy motorcycle and fighter to integrate wildness and intellectuality.
