Cooperating in building a gross anatomy laboratory, National Chung Hsing University and Taichung Veterans General Hospital held an unveiling ceremony at the Taichung Veterans General Hospital on February 16. The gross anatomy laboratory introduced equipment of fully automatic rapid cadaver antiseptic treatment from Japan, which greatly shortened the antiseptic treatment time and reduced the use of formalin. Comprehensive digital intelligent control, equipment specifications and safety are all world-class high-profile standards.

In 2022, National Chung Hsing University established the Department of Post-Baccalaureate Medicine, College of Medicine, pioneered the Harvard model, and cooperated with Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Changhua Christian Hospital, Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital and Show Chwan Health Care System to support teaching and clinical internships. Among them, Superintendent Shih-An Chen of the Taichung Veterans General Hospital actively assisted in providing space and jointly raising funds to build a gross anatomy laboratory. Professor Tien-Hua Chen, Chairman of the Anatomy Society of the Republic of China was invited to plan a world-class anatomy laboratory to provide an excellent learning environment for students from Department of Post-Baccalaureate Medicine, National Chung Hsing University.

In the newly-built gross anatomy laboratory, the procedure is different from the traditional cadaver antiseptic perfusion and immersion which takes about one year. Fully automatic antiseptic treatment equipment worth more than NT$3 million was specially purchased from Japan, which can shorten the time to one month and reduce the extensive use of formalin, and reduce the burden on the environment. The anatomy room adopts digital intelligent control, maintains a negative pressure state throughout the year, and is equipped with an air-conditioning system and a 24-hour monitoring system for formaldehyde concentration, so that the concentration of formaldehyde in the classroom is far lower than the regulatory standard. Not only is the anatomy room bright and spacious, but there is no smell of formalin in the room, providing a safe and comfortable learning environment for teachers and students. Besides, the gross anatomy laboratory is equipped with perfusion table, perfusion machine, refrigerated freezer, lift and extraction dissection table, extraction system and glare-free photography LED operating lights to create a world-class high-profile gross anatomy laboratory which, apart from providing anatomy teaching for medical students, also furnishes the residents of the hospital's surgery department with a place to conduct teaching and training on clinical simulation surgery with cadaver.

As Superintendent Shih-An Chen of Taichung Veterans General Hospital said, with the gross anatomy laboratory situated in the Hospital, our surgeons, who have very sufficient practical experience in the field of anatomy, are able to assist and guide the students at any time. It is believed that the result can be achieved that teaching benefits teachers as well as students and each shine more brilliantly in the other's company.

As Dean Chien-Wei Chen of College of Medicine, NCHU said, in addition to the gross anatomy laboratory, National Chung Hsing University purchased real human body skeleton specimens, skull specimens, soaked specimens and purely hand-made decomposable models of various human organ specimens from Germany, and a digital virtual dissection table imported from the United States.
Consequently, the students is not only able to actually operate the scalpel but can also learn complex structures such as muscles, nerves, and blood vessels in various parts of the human body in multi-faceted ways through digital 3D medical images and simulation models in the gross anatomy course.

Ta-Ho Huang, the alumnus from the Class of 1966 of the Department of Civil Engineering, NCHU, was invited to attend this ceremony. As the first alumnus to sign a cadaver donation consent form to his alma mater, Ta-Ho Huang said that he was very happy to see his alma mater establish a College of Medicine and become a more all-round comprehensive university. As he understood that promoting medical education requires going through untold hardships, he signed the cadaver donation consent form in the hope that he would give back to the society and eave people with a chic view of back to bring some inspiration to future generations as well.
