【Forwarded】NCHU Dengue fever/ Chikungunya fever Notice

As the new academic term approaches, we would like to remind all faculty, staff, and students of our school’s preventive measures in accordance with the “2023 Dengue Fever and Chikungunya fever Plan” approved on August 29th.

I.    Implement environmental hygiene, eliminate mosquito breeding sources.

A.    Dengue Fever is considered a “community” and “environmental” disease. Disease-carrying mosquitoes do not discriminate in their choice of victims. Once the Dengue virus enters the campus with mosquito breeding sources in the vicinity, there is a potential for a Dengue Fever outbreak.

B.    All units and building management committees must continuously strengthen the implementation of environmental hygiene in their respective areas of responsibility. Regular inspections and elimination of breeding sources are required. Routine, weekly reviews of both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions should be conducted, along with the practice of “Inspect, Empty, Clean, and Scrub” for water containers.

C.    The Office of General Affairs is responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, and safety maintenance of the campus environment, including partitioned areas and public spaces. Each building management committee can go to the administrative unit of the Office of General Affairs to obtain mosquito control pesticides to prevent the breeding of mosquito larvae.

D.    The Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental Protection Center will conduct inspections in various areas and oversee the removal of waste and standing water containers within the premises to reduce the potential risk of breeding sources.

II.    Conduct self-health management within one week of returning to school from a dengue fever endemic area.

A.    Each unit should be aware of the health status of their affiliated faculty and staff who have a travel history from epidemic areas (such as returning from Southeast Asia or domestic areas like Tainan, Yunlin, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, etc.). If suspected symptoms or confirmed cases occur, immediate medical attention should be sought, and the campus safety notification procedure should be promptly implemented. Additionally, reduce outings and practice self-health management.

1.    If suspected symptoms occur, such as fever, limb pain, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle pain, and joint pain, seek medical attention immediately and undergo necessary tests.

2.    If tested positive, please immediately report and cooperate with health authorities and the Health and Counseling Center of the Office of Students Affairs in conducting an epidemiological investigation, including travel and activity history.
