On September 20th, 2023, the delegation from the University of Konstanz in Germany visited the National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), and the meeting was hosted by Dr. Fuh-Jyh Jan, the President of NCHU.
The delegation was led by the Rector of the University of Konstanz, Dr. Katharina Holzinger, and included the Vice Rector, Dr. Dorothea Debus, as well as the Director of the International Affairs Office, Dr. Johannes Dingler, and the Deputy Director, Ms. Christina Fritz. They were accompanied by Mr. Yi-Da Chen, the Secretary of the Ministry of Education's International Affairs Bureau. NCHU delegation comprised the President of National Chung Hsing University, Dr. Fuh-Jyh Jan, Vice President and Dean of College of Science, Dr. Yin-Tzer Shih, Associate Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Kai-Jung Chi, Director of Academic Exchange Division, Dr. Edith Su, Dean of College of Management, Dr. Ying-Jiun Hsieh, Associate Dean of College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Hui-Yun Sung, and Director of Advanced Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Tung-Chieh Tsai.
President Jan delivered a welcoming remark, extending warm greetings to our distinguished guests and hoped this precious meeting would lead to more collaboration opportunities in the future. V.P.Dr. Chi presented NCHU's highlights and exchange programs. Then, Rector Holzinger provided insights into the University of Konstanz's profile. Vice-Rector Debus elaborated on their international alliances, while Dr. Dingler elucidated their university's internationalization policies. Following this, NCHU representatives provided concise overviews of our academic areas and strengths, fostering mutual understanding for potential future collaborations.
During the meeting, both parties engaged in a fruitful exchange of ideas. Dr. Dingler raised the issue of selecting courses for exchange students at NCHU. NCHU representatives emphasized that students' course choices are not limited to the English-taught curriculum; the university actively promoted EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) courses. In addition to English-taught professional courses in various colleges, NCHU also offered all-English general education courses. Rector Holzinger was impressed by NCHU being the first eco-friendly Campus in Taiwan and expressed an interest in exchanging insights on sustainability issues. Both sides acknowledged the valuable chance for in-person discussions post-pandemic and found the visit highly rewarding. They both aimed to foster greater collaboration opportunities and encourage increased student exchange between the two universities through this visit.
