On November 15, 2023, Washington State University (WSU) paid a visit to National Chung Hsing University (NCHU). Dr. Kai-Jung Chi, Associate Vice President for International Affairs at NCHU, and Dr. Mike Trevisan, Dean of the College of Education at WSU, collaboratively exchanged the signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) to facilitate academic exchange between the two universities.
Washington State University (WSU), founded in 1890 with a history spanning over 120 years, has a longstanding partnership with NCHU. The collaboration began in 1993 when both universities first signed an academic exchange memorandum. For the current renewal of this partnership, Dr. Mike Trevisan, Dean of the College of Education at WSU, represented their institution, while National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) was represented by Dr. Kai-Jung Chi, Associate Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Edith Su, Director of Academic Exchange Division, as well as Dr. Tze-Chang Liu, Director of Institute of Professional Development for Educators, Dr. Jin-Fu Wu, and Dr. Yu-Chuan Shen, all from the same institute.
During the MOU renewal ceremony, Dr. Trevisan expressed WSU’s strong commitment to deepening the academic exchange between the two universities. Following the renewal ceremony, Dr. Chi provided an overview of the university and introduced diverse student exchange programs. In the course of the discussions, Dr. Trevisan expected to initiate student exchange programs in addition to mutual visits, jointly taught courses, and academic conferences. Furthermore, both universities see potential for cooperation in their business schools, engineering colleges, and other areas of development. Additionally, there are opportunities for collaboration in the newly established medical schools at both institutions.
Dr. Chi expressed NCHU’s commitment to advancing the collaboration in alignment with the international cooperation policies, and proposed to promptly finalize the student exchange agreements, creating overseas learning opportunities for students from both universities. Dr. Liu mentioned that prior to the pandemic, they had invited Dr. Trevisan to host online courses and lectures. This year, both universities were able to meet in person to conduct courses. He looks forward to implementing student exchange programs and more dual-degree programs.
The renewal of the MOU continues the longstanding partnership between the two universities, fostering the sharing of educational resources and mutual learning from each other's teaching and research experiences, which affirms the positive collaborative spirit between the two institutions.
