With the support of 11 alumni and companies, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) has held its first "2024 Little Reading Explorers - Magical Night at the Library" public welfare event, where school children stayed overnight in the library. The event ran from July 1 to July 8, with three sessions planned. Each session invited 40 children to participate in a 2-day, 1-night reading adventure activity for free, staying in the NCHU library, which was opened for overnight stays for the first time. Through this engaging reading activity, the university aimed to provide children with a diverse learning experience.
The opening ceremony of the first session was held on the morning of July 1 at the NCHU library. NCHU President Fuh-Jyh Jan, Library Director Hui-Yun Sung, Dean of Academic Affairs Yuh-Fang Chang, Dean of the International College of Innovation and Industry Liaison Chin-Shien Lin, Chairman of the Beauty Taiwan 3D Association Wen-Hao Chao, and representatives from eight sponsoring companies were present. Together, they read the camp's theme story "Can E-books be Delicious?" to the children and presented them with the reading materials, kicking off the camp in a lively and fun manner.
The event was co-organized by the NCHU International College of Innovation and Industry Liaison, the library, and the Office of Academic Affairs. The three sessions were held from July 1-2, July 4-5, and July 7-8. The participants included students from priority education areas served by the Ministry of Education's bilingual companion program and Non-City, Non-Rural elementary schools, including those from Xihu Township in Miaoli County, Wanhua and Wenshan Districts in Taipei City, Wuri, East, and Dali Districts in Taichung City, Rende and Qigu Districts in Tainan City, and Xiaogang District in Kaohsiung City. The children were very excited and curious about the opportunity to stay overnight in the library.
President Fuh-Jyh Jan expressed that the Little Owl Summer and Winter Camps organized by the International College of Innovation and Industry Liaison are highly sought-after and well-regarded events in central Taiwan. In fulfilling the university's social responsibility, the college organized a public welfare summer camp this year. He extended his gratitude to the 11 alumni and companies for their support and hopes to inspire children's reading journeys, laying the foundation for self-directed and lifelong learning.
The camp's curriculum, meticulously designed by the International College of Innovation and Industry Liaison, included activities led by experienced reading and tour guides, with NCHU students serving as team assistants. The activities included reading and critical thinking discussions, creating small picture books, campus ecology tours, a 3D movie screening of "The Beauty of Taiwan" by the Beauty Taiwan 3D Association, and library exploration activities.
