On July 31, Yongling Hope Primary School NCHU Branch hosted the "Hello Hopes Entrepreneurship Fair" at National Chung Hsing University. About 120 students from eight elementary schools in Taichung City set up stalls to sell products. The students were responsible for everything from product planning to revenue and expenditure management, integrating their diverse summer courses and financial planning lessons in a lively and innovative way to challenge themselves and learn.
The participating elementary schools collaborating with Yongling Hope Primary School NCHU Branch included eight Elementary Schools. Hope Primary School focuses on providing learning assistance to students from disadvantaged families during the school year and summer vacation. During the school term, remedial teaching mainly covers Chinese, English, and Mathematics, along with academic tutoring. In the summer, a five-week program offers remedial teaching in basic subjects and diverse courses, including aesthetic courses, food and agriculture education, and math game courses.
The fair was planned with each school having a single stall, and the products had to incorporate concepts taught during the summer courses. The stalls featured activities such as Rubik's Cube experiences, aesthetic goods shops, food and agriculture knowledge pinball, paper art transformations, number magic experiences, and plant ring toss games. Students enthusiastically distributed flyers and loudly promoted their products.
Chen Yiqing, a social worker at Yongling Hope Primary School NCHU Branch, mentioned that each child received a startup cost of 50 NTD, aiming for them to learn about cost concepts, product development, customer interaction, and financial management. The profits from the day's stalls would be converted into learning points, which would then be issued on learning points financial cards. The school would prepare various practical supplies and stationery that the children could redeem with these cards. This initiative hopes to teach children that their efforts and accumulation over time can provide them with more choices.
The "Hello Hopes Entrepreneurship Fair" included an English Readers' Theater performance in the morning and a diverse learning achievements entrepreneurship fair in the afternoon. This event encouraged children to showcase their creativity, commercialize their learning achievements, and share their knowledge to earn profits. Through this annual challenge activity, the school aims to provide a platform for disadvantaged students to present their diverse learning outcomes, boost their learning confidence, stimulate their motivation, and teach them financial knowledge, event planning skills, and teamwork.
