To enhance the effectiveness of campus safety and health management, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) hosted the "2023-2024 Central Taiwan Higher Education Institutions Campus Learning and Occupational Safety and Health Management Alliance Conference and Occupational Safety and Health Internal and External Audit Commitment Signing Ceremony" on July 23. This event united an alliance of 28 universities and colleges from central Taiwan, all dedicated to improving occupational safety and health management on their campuses.
The signing ceremony was presided over by NCHU Vice President Chang Chao-Chin and witnessed by distinguished guests from the Ministry of Education, the Central Taiwan Occupational Safety and Health Center of the Ministry of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the Taichung City Labor Inspection Office. Heads and representatives of environmental safety units from the participating institutions signed the commitment, pledging to promote internal and external audits for occupational safety and health.
Vice President Chang highlighted that since the Ministry of Education established the "Campus Learning and Occupational Safety and Health Management Self-Help Alliance" initiative in 2019, it has successfully completed three phases. Initially, labor inspection agencies invested significant human and material resources to assist universities and colleges in implementing safety partnership programs, thereby increasing the attention of senior management on campus occupational safety and health. Through on-site guidance, institutions have re-evaluated and corrected various deficiencies in their safety and health management systems and practices, achieving substantial results. Continuous "self-review and improvement" is essential to achieve the ultimate goal of "excellence" in occupational safety and health management, reinforcing the determination and actions to enhance campus safety and health management.
Since taking over as the convener school of the Central Taiwan Self-Help Alliance in the 2023 academic year, NCHU, with financial support from the Ministry of Education and professional guidance from the Ministry of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Taichung City Labor Inspection Office, has organized six practical training camps on occupational safety and health on-site inspections. These events have trained 97 safety and health auditors for higher education institutions. In the future, these highly skilled campus audit experts will assist other universities and colleges in conducting external audits, ensuring a more comprehensive implementation of safety and health protocols in higher education institutions.
