Shih-Han Huang, a promising long jumper who recently enrolled in the Finance Department of National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) this September, has made remarkable achievements in the second half of 2024. Competing in both the 113th Autumn Cup National Track and Field Open and the National Athletics Championships, Huang clinched double golds in the long jump and triple jump at both events, total of four gold medals. Notably, at the National Athletics Championships, Huang set a new meet record with a personal best of 6.17 meters in the women's long jump. The outstanding news has thrilled her professors, classmates, and alumni of NCHU.
Huang, a graduate of Hui-Wen High School, had already won 16 gold medals in domestic and international long jump and triple jump competitions under the guidance of her coach, Tsai Hsin-Hsien. However, due to financial difficulties, she had originally planned to give up her passion for athletics after graduating from high school. Fortunately, in August, through the joint support of NCHU and Huiwen High School, along with the generous sponsorship of NT$800,000 in scholarships from NCHU Alumni Association President Chia-Yu Chung and alumna Huey-Jaun Luh, Huang was able to continue her athletic career. Coach Tsai also remains committed to training her without compensation. This collective support has enabled Huang to focus on her training throughout her four years of university.
Huang has continued to meet expectations and surpass her own limits. In September, she competed in the 113th Autumn Cup National Track and Field Open, where she won double golds in the women’s long jump and triple jump with marks of 6.04 meters and 12.5 meters, respectively. In October, at the 113th National Athletics Championships, Huang claimed gold in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.17 meters, breaking the meet record and setting a new personal best. She also won the women’s triple jump with a distance of 12.5 meters.
Coach Tsai expressed his pride in Huang, noting that she has been working hard both academically and in her training since starting university. He is pleased with her results this season and grateful for the support she has received. He hopes that Huang will continue to achieve even greater success next year.
