Taiwan's first and only dog sperm bank has helped soothe a dog lover's sorrow over the death of his beloved dog, a veterinarian at the bank said Thursday.
Years ago, a 50-year-old man brought his paralyzed boxer to the bank and had the dog's sperm stored there, recalled Cheng Feng-bang, who is also a professor at National Chung Hsing University's Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital in Taichung City, which runs the sperm bank.
The boxer died a year later.
Two years later, his owner decided to be "reunited" with his dog and sought assistance from the bank, Cheng said.
The bank made his dream come true by breeding two puppies from the sperm through the use of artificial insemination, Cheng said.
The bank, which was established nine years ago, now stores the sperm of 150 dogs.
The bank has also helped breed some rare and valuable species, Cheng said, adding that the bank can also assist dogs with vibriosis problems. |
