【媒體報導】臺灣高教現況 薛富盛校長專訪

從1995年教育部鼓勵台灣技職學校轉型成科技大學、技術學院開始，台灣的大專院校數量激增，至2009年達到最高點，總共有164間，而目前則有158間高等教育學校，這些數量造成高錄取率，幾乎人人都可以上大學。在【Taiwan Outlook】節目中，國立中興大學校長薛富盛談到還有少子化因素，也嚴重影響台灣的大專院校招生情形，因此，對於教育部提出合併計畫，未來將刪減1/3的大專院校，薛富盛表示贊同。此外，薛富盛也提出對「後頂大計畫」的看法，而外界認為政府過度保護台灣大學教育環境的疑慮，薛富盛說這是一體兩面，但也讓台灣的大學教育環境在國際間更有競爭力。

There are 158 universities and colleges in Taiwan. Some people believed that number is too many and it may undermine Taiwan’s economic competiveness.
